Former Tottenham boss Terry Venables has likened Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to Paul Gascoigne. Venables wrote in The Sun: "Jack Wilshere's display against Brazil was simply sensational.
"It showed he has the potential to be a star of the Three Lions for many years to come.
"I just wish I was able to sit down and have a chat with Paul Gascoigne about him. As we know, Gazza has wisely gone to the US in a bid to conquer his demons.
"It is a shame things have turned out like this for the player I managed for both Tottenham and England. He never shirked a challenge on the pitch and I am sure, with the same determination, he can win this battle.
"I join the whole country in wishing him well. I am sure he'd have approved of Wilshere's performance against the Samba Boys. As footballers, they are both cut from the same cloth.
"Wilshere has the same build, that same barrel chest and upper body strength that allows him to fend off opponents and keep them at arms length, ensuring him extra precious seconds on the ball to weave his magic."
