EFL CUP QF: Man Utd turn on the style to get past West Ham

Manchester United have advanced to the semi-final of the EFL Cup courtesy of a 4-1 win over West Ham United.

Jose Mourinho's Red Devils, without their manager in the dugout, turned on the style at Old Trafford to come away with a thoroughly deserved victory and subsequent spot in the final four of the league cup competition.

In a reverse of the weekend's 1-1 draw in the Premier League, this time United scored early through Zlatan Ibrahimovic who received a clever back-heel from Henrikh Mkihtaryan before producing a lovely finish beyond an onrushing Adrian.

And just as occurred in the league encounter, the team who fell behind early managed to level before half-time, as former United striker Ashley Fletcher was on hand to slot home the rebound for West Ham after David De Gea could only parry Dimitri Payet's effort into his path.

United required only three minutes of the second half to find themselves black in the lead and it came courtesy of another assist from the improving Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian ran onto a flick-on from Antonio Valencia before cutting back for Anthony Martial who produced a rifling effort from 14 yards which gave Adrian absolutely no chance.

Mourinho's men were clear and dry just after the hour-mark thanks to Martial's second as the Frenchman was on the end of some good lead-up work from Ibrahimovic and Valencia which resulted in a simple conversion straight in front of goal.

To wrap it up, Ibrahimovic helped himself to a second in injury-time when he expertly tucked home Ander Herrera's pinpoint cut-back from the byline to make it a deserved four goals for the home team.

United are now into the final four for the 14th time, and join north-west rivals Liverpool, Hull City and Southampton.
