Effenberg writes off Rangers Champions League hopes

"I think Rangers were a better team when I played them eight years ago," he said. "I'm not impressed by them, they did not play well against Stuttgart and although they have [had] a good start it will be hard for them.

"Rangers are far from perfect. They fight, they can run a lot but they should consider themselves lucky that they won. Stuttgart will be stronger at home. They played pretty good in the first hour then after getting the one goal advantage they destroyed everything they had. They gave up this game by making so many mistakes.

"The striker Jean-Claude Darcheville impressed me, Barry Ferguson played good and the keeper is good. But the rest is... I don't know. It is not good enough to go to the last 16."
