Former Germany star Stefan Effenberg believes Arsenal midfielder Mesut Oil and Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan should've been dropped from Joachim Low's World Cup squad.
Both players were pictured with Turkey president Recip Tayyip Erdogan, who has been accused of violating human rights in his country.
Both Ozil and Gundogan have been the recipients of jeers from German crowds, and Effenberg believes they shouldn't be in Russia with the defending champions.
"If you bet on certain values, as the DFB repeatedly conveys, then the decision can only be made by throwing the two players out," said Effenberg.
Effenberg, himself, was thrown out of the 1998 World Cup after flipping off German fans in Dallas.
