Edu, Maidana, Nogueira additions forced Daniel out at Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia Union head coach John Hackworth suggests Keon Daniel was merely a victim of circumstance in regards to his exit from the club.

The 27-year old Trinidad & Tobago international departed the Union this week after mutually agreeing to have his contract terminated.

Hackworth has admitted that the off-season arrivals of Maurice Edu, Cristian Maidana and Vincent Nogueira had made life difficult for Daniel, who had been with Philly since 2011, while revealing that the Union were unable to come up with a successful trade plan which leaves the midfielder without a home.

"Keon is still a player that probably has a lot more potential than what he showed here," Hackworth said during his weekly press conference Wednesday.

"With us making the acquisitions in the midfield that we did, it kind of left Keon on the outside.

"He was understandably upset that he wasn't going to get the opportunities, so it was a mutual agreement that if he wasn't going to be in our plans that we were going to try to find a way to put him in a place where he could play and where it could be beneficial for us too.

"And we were able to work that out.

"It's complicated. I wouldn't say there was absolutely no trade [market]. But the situation had to be good for both parties. And we didn't find that situation."
