Eck excited by young talent at Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish intends to give his young players their chance next season.

The Birmingham Mail says with chairman Randy Lerner and the board keen to keep the wage bill under control, the youngsters will be given further chances to impress by McLeish.

Villa hope they get even more game time under McLeish than they did under predecessor Gerard Houllier.

Nathan Baker, Eric Lichaj and Gary Gardner are also bubbling under and ready to challenge for first team roles.

With Lerner eager to balance the books following a big spend on Darren Bent and Jean Makoun in January, it is hoped the emergence of the kids could save the club millions in transfer fees.

"Looking through the squad it's a great mix of experience and some tremendous youth players," said McLeish.

''We definitely have players coming through. Albrighton is the one who made the big breakthrough last season.

"Delfouneso is another that I know. Then there are the likes of Nathan Baker and Gary Gardner too. It would be great to have a great mix of youth and experience going forward next season."
