Liverpool reserves coach Gary Ablett says academy pair Nathan Eccleston and Alex Kacaniklic could be promoted in the coming weeks.

Both players featured in the friendly victory over Southport and Ablett told liverpoolfc.tv: "Nathan and Alex are still at the Academy but after their performance today we'll be looking to bring them up in the not too distant future.

"The problem is, we already have a lot of players.

"Once we sort ourselves out numbers-wise, they could make the step up."
