Eccleston grateful to Hodgson for Liverpool first team chance

Nathan Eccleston is thrilled with the first team chances he's had at Liverpool this season.

The 19-year-old has made five first-team appearances so far this season and is one of a host of youngsters to have been given an opportunity to showcase their talent on the big stage.

"I think out of all the teams that are in the Europa League, the gaffer has shown that he is most prepared to put younger players in whereas certain managers wouldn't have," Eccleston told LFC Weekly. "I think he's shown great confidence in us.

"Every time he's told us to go out there and to remember that we're Liverpool players. We might not be as big names as the other players in the team as of yet, but he has still shown us the same confidence and encouragement that he shows them, so that is great for us.

"I was speaking to Jonjo Shelvey before the game in Turkey (against Trabzonspor) and we were saying how good it was to be involved in nights like that. Jonjo then started against Napoli in front of 55,000 fans. The atmosphere was daunting. It's something that I had never come across before in my life and even though I didn't play, it was still good to sample."
