Easy choice selecting Nowak as Philadelphia Union coach - Sakiewicz

Philadelphia Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz has revealed that it was not a tough decision to select the current head coach Peter Nowak.

The 47-year old former USA national team assistant was appointed as the Union's boss in their inaugural MLS season in 2010 and Sakiewicz' decision has been vindicated with Nowak leading the franchise to play-offs in just their second campaign.

"Embarrassingly, I didn't have a plan," Sakiewicz told MLSsoccer.com of his selection process. "Because Peter was my first, second and third choice.

"He fits the market, he fits the organization and we feel very fortunate to have Peter, John [Hackworth], Rob [Vartughian] and the whole staff here.

"I love the locker room and I love the leadership. I've never had such a cohesive group of players."

As for Nowak being a chance to win the 2011 MLS Coach of the Year, Sakiewicz said he would certainly vote for his man if he was allowed to.

"He'd get my vote," Sakiewicz added. "But I can't vote."
