Early pre-season efforts please Orlando City's Heath

Orlando City SC head coach Adrian Heath was full of praise for his squad after six days of their very first MLS pre-season.

The three-time USL PRO league champions are preparing for their very first campaign in the USA and Canada's top flight with training officially opening last Friday.

OCSC are working at their new training facilities out in Seminole County, about 25 minutes north of downtown Orlando, and coach Heath was thrilled with how it has all begun ahead of the 2015 MLS season.

"It's going very well. The intensity is good. We are starting to put one or two layers down on what we are trying to achieve moving forward," he told reporters after training on Wednesday.

Heath touched on the fact that he was taking a slightly different approach to bringing a brand new group of players together after stepping up from US soccer's third tier.

"For the first two or three weeks we are going to put them in a hotel together rather than people going home and going to different parts," he added.

"We've had them in the hotel so they can get to know each other a little bit better.

"It's the beginning of a process. We play a very distinct style and a lot of players have got to learn their roles and responsibilities within the group and that's what the next three or weeks is for.

"It's good for the guys who were already here because they have a reference point of what's accepted and what's not accepted within the group because every club is different.

"More importantly, they've settled down really well, there is a good chemistry so far. I've been really impressed with the talent level, I've been really impressed with the effort from everybody and really impressed with the desire.

"There's a real competition for places already."

Orlando City, who will play out of the 60,000-capacity Citrus Bowl in 2015, kickstart their time in MLS with a tantalizing fixture against fellow expansion club New York City FC on March 8.
