Kieron Dyer was delighted for Middlesbrough teammate Sammy Ameobi as they both struck in victory over Cardiff City.
Dyer says on-loan Newcastle United winger Ameobi is sure to avoid the same pitfalls that he experienced while a Toon star.
The former England international, 34, said: "It's completely different being a young player these days to when I was coming through.
"When I went to Newcastle, you didn't have a player liaison officer, or anything like that to help.
"One minute I was at Ipswich and the next I was flying to Newcastle and living on the Quayside.
"You had thousands of pounds given to you every week, there was no advice and as a result you make mistakes.
"These days young lads now have a liaison officer, people advising them what to do with their money, reminding them to keep out of town, advising them to buy houses.
"It's different to when I was a young lad as part of the brat pack."
