Dyche dismisses Burnley long ball claims

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has dismissed stats showing they're a long ball team.

The Clarets have played the most 'long passes' in the Premier League this season.

"There are a lot of perceptions about these sort of stats," he said. "I think we're playing some great stuff.

"Some of the football we've played has been excellent, and it's been productive and it's been effective.

"We all know teams who have 500 passes on the edge of their own box and only have 20 on the edge of the opposition box. If that's passing football I would deem it not to be appropriate.

"The real masters of it have lots of passes in the final third of the pitch.

"The top four, five or six elite teams at every level of football worldwide are usually the ones who have the most passes, because they have the best players and the best technicians.

"Take them away and it's highly unlikely that everyone else has got the technicians to roll it from the six-yard line, play 400 passes and score at the end of it."
