Dwight Gayle reveals Newcastle foursome launching own football comp

Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle is launching his own football competition.

Gayle wants to get more involved in Tyneside footballing life, and help unearth a future No.9.

He found it tough developing from a kid playing Under-16, to adult football, and doesn't want Geordie kids feeling the same as he did.

Gayle told the Mirror: “It is a tough age in people's careers. The difference between an under-16 player and an adult footballer is vast.

“There is a bit of a gap in the community around Newcastle and we are helping that transition by starting a league.

“I went from U-16 to try and play men's football, I was nowhere near, it was difficult and I almost fell out of love with it.

Matt Ritchie, Rob Elliot and Paul Dummett are involved.

“We opened a soccer school, and have branched out to open a BTEC course and starting a league."
