The New Zealand club were eliminated from the 2009/10 finals series by eventual champions the Sky Blues at the venue but the central defender is aware that there are more important things at stake than avenging something from the past.
"I don't think we need any more motivation than what's already at stake," Durante said of his side's current position.
"We've got a big three (points) there for us on Wednesday night and it's going to be a tough match. They (Sydney) are also going to be desperate for the three points. But we seem to be getting out of that little rut in form we've been in over the past month. Hopefully we can get the win but it's definitely going to be tough."
Wellington are currently placed seventh on the table, equal on points with sixth-placed Melbourne Victory with Sydney four points behind, and Durante knows how vital a positive result can be in a match like this.
"There are a few teams locked in pretty tight in the middle of the table and we know that a decent run of results can get us right back in the mix. That's what our focus has been on - being consistent," he added.
