Wellington Phoenix captain Andrew Durante was content after helping his side to a 2-1 pre-season win over the Brisbane Roar in Hamilton on Saturday.
The Phoenix were served well by star striker Paul Ifill and new recruit Dylan Macallister who netted in the first half before Roar midfielder Matt McKay got one back with just over ten minutes remaining and Durante was buoyed by the performance of last season's surprise packets.
"It was a very good result," Durante said. "It was our first hit-out against top-quality opposition and having Siggy (Ben Sigmund) and (Mark) Paston back was good.
"It was good for Dylan to get on the scoresheet. It's important for new players, especially strikers, to get their scoring done early rather than later, otherwise pressure comes on them. I think he's a great acquisition for the club."
Wellington take on Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday and then play their final pre-season match against Argentine club Boca Juniors at Westpac Stadium on Jul 23.
