Dunphy scoffs at Man City hype: Fergie's teams would've eaten them alive

Former Manchester United junior Eamon Dunphy has scoffed at claims of Manchester City being the best team the Premier League has seen.

City have won a record-breaking 15 league games in success and head into Saturday's Premier League game against Tottenham with a massive 11-point lead at the top of the table, but Dunphy does not believe they have earned the right to be hailed as the greatest Premier League side of them all.

“It's way off the beam to say City are the best Premier League team of all-time," declared Dunphy, speaking to RTE 2FM's Game One. “They are a long, long way away from being the best team we have seen in the Premier League.

“The best United teams would have eaten this City team alive. They are not close at the moment, just look at the goals they have conceded.

“Guardiola has adapted well to the Premier League and he has done a good job, but let's see what they are really made of when they have take on one of the big teams in the Champions League.

“They have struggled in the last few weeks to beat ordinary teams. They keep a lot of possession, but they are a million miles away from the team Roy Keane played in at Manchester United, the team Patrick Vieira led at Arsenal and even some of the Chelsea teams with (Didier) Drogba, (Frank) Lampard and John Terry. They were real teams with exciting forwards and strong defences.

“This is a very, very poor Premier League. Swansea are poor, Newcastle are terrible, Burnley are in the top four. You have to take that into the equation when assessing City."
