Dunphy: Mourinho's Man Utd no improvement on LVG

Former Manchester United junior Eamon Dunphy says Jose Mourinho has not improved the team from Louis van Gaal's time in charge.

The Irish pundit slammed Mourinho's transfer market work after defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

"It's a frightening prospect but they don't have anybody," said Dunphy.

"They've two wingers playing full back and Ashley Young is playing well, but before yesterday they had conceded one goal at home and they were unbeaten at home, but it is such a poor league that the statistics can be very misleading.

"They don't have a centre half partnership; Marcos Rojo and (Chris) Smalling? No way.

"And in midfield they don't have a good playmaker. He could have played Juan Mata and left (Ander) Herrera out because Herrera is no good.

"Mata wouldn't have given up possession and would have helped put pressure on City's defence, but a bit like Martin O'Neill and (Giovanni) Trapattoni, Mourinho is a coach in that mould, when it comes to brawn or brain, he prefers brawn.

"The ultimate answer is, they have wasted money. (Romelu) Lukaku, he caused the second goal, he panicked in his own box, then he missed a sitter five minutes from the end."
