Dundee Utd's Ciftci one of the best strikers in Scotland - Donnelly

Dundee United assistant manager Simon Donnelly believes Nadir Ciftci has the ability to be one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership.

The Turkish forward has had a successful debut campaign with the Tangerines, netting nine league goals, for a total of 14 in all competitions.

22-year old Ciftci, who joined the Terrors from NAC Breda in the summer, should be a contender for the Scottish Player of the Year award according to Donnelly who was full of praise for the former Portsmouth and Kayserispor man.

"Nadir has been class. When he's on his game there aren't many better strikers in this league," Donnelly told the Daily Record.

"It's our job to make sure he is on it more often than not. There are times when he becomes frustrated and gets caught up in things.

"But when he's on song he's as good as anything in Scotland.

"He has all the qualities you need and you've seen that in the goals he has scored this season.

"People forget how young he is - we'll actually need to check his passport because he doesn't look 22!

"But that's maybe where the wee inconsistencies come from. People look at the beard and his big frame and think he's 30-plus. But he's only a kid.

"We have a few Player of the Year candidates because they've had great seasons here.

"But Nadir has scored 14 goals and he's an entertainer. That's what the game's about. He's clever and creative so he might be there or thereabouts for the awards."
