Dundee Utd keen to hang onto Szamotulski

Dundee United boss Craig Levein admits they're hoping to extend goalkeeper Grzegorz Szamotulski's stay.

The Polish goalkeeper has told Levein that he wishes to leave Tannadice when his current deal expires at the end of the month, but the United boss is hopeful of being able to persuade him to stay on a short-term contract.

Lukasz Zaluska is still some weeks away from full fitness and if Szamotulski were to leave, Euan McLean would be the only other established goalkeeper at Levein's disposal.

Levein said: "We are in discussions with Szamotulski just now about whether he will stay on a little bit longer, because we are in the position where Lukasz isn't going to be fit for another four to six weeks."
