Dundee Utd capture Swiss defender to new deal

Mihael Kovacevic has signed a contract extension at Dundee United until the end of May 2011. The Swiss defender has been sidelined for the entire season due to a serious knee injury.

However, United boss Peter Houston was keen to show the 22-year-old remained part of his side's plans by offering him the extension to his current deal.

He told the club's official website: "With Mihael being out all so season so far, but making good progress at last, this gives him the opportunity to prove his fitness and get back to playing regularly for the first team.

"Should this be the case, we fully expect to be able to offer a more fuller extension at the appropriate time.

"In the meantime, the short term extension benefits both the player and the club."
