Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara says Richie Ryan does not have a future at the club.
The 28-year old midfielder joined from Irish club Sligo Rovers in January 2012 but could be on his way out the Tannadice exit door according to his current boss.
"I have told Richie it's going to be difficult for him to get into the team," McNamara told the Dundee Courier.
"I could keep him as cover but that's not fair because he needs to be playing football.
"There is nothing happening yet but I am hoping we get something sorted with him soon. We are well covered in midfield and have youngsters coming through."
Ryan started with Sunderland in 2003 and has played for Scunthorpe United, Boston United and Royal Antwerp prior to his move to Sligo in 2008.
