The 21-year old has emerged as a key contributor for the Terrors in the early stages of the new season which has prompted links with a shift south of the boarder in the not too distant future.
"I'm very comfortable staying here," Armstrong told the Sunday Mail.
"Johnny was playing first-team football for a number of years and earned that move to Derby.
"I just want to play week in week out and prove I'm good enough to play for Dundee United, let alone anyone else.
"It's nice to hear compliments when people are watching you but the timing has to be right. Players can go down south and not get a regular game.
"It's my ambition to play at the highest level and England would be a good move, but I have to prove myself here first.
"Having the games in your locker is a huge advantage. I remember being frustrated here when I was spending a lot of time on the bench."
