Dundee United miss out on Hunt bonus after Reading promotion

Dundee United have missed out on a bonus of £250,000 after former player Noel Hunt gained promotion to the English Premier League with Reading.

The 28-year old left Tannadice Park for the Madjeski Stadium in 2008 with his Royals contract having a clause that the Arabs would benefit if the Berkshire club were ever to push into the top flight.

On Tuesday night, Reading beat Nottingham Forest to ensure automatic entry to the Premier League but unfortunately for United, the clause expired last summer, meaning they get nothing for Hunt's exploits.

"Everyone had their fingers crossed last year that Reading would go up but they lost to Swansea in the play-off final," said manager Peter Houston.

"Unfortunately for us, Noel's clause expired last summer."
