Dundee United chief Thompson wants calm amidst Rangers chaos

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has called for calm from the Scottish football community in relation to the current Rangers situation.

The Ibrox club were this week hit with a £160,000 fine and 12-month transfer embargo to add to their administration and financial woes, sparking a furious reaction from 'Gers supporters.

Three members of the Scottish Football Association panel who made the call have since received threats and Thompson, who was part of a Scottish Premier League board that has drafted fresh proposals for clubs facing liquidation, believes people simply need to remain calm at this chaotic time.

"Emotions are running very high across all of Scotland at the moment," Thompson told Sky Sports.

"It is unfortunate the stage it has got to.

"It is a time for cool heads and a bit of reflection on everything that has happened and why have we got to the stage we have got to.

"It is not a great reflection on Scotland as a nation either, so hopefully we can all just reflect on it and talk properly and sensibly about the whole thing and the way forward."
