Paul Dummett is determined to prove his value to Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew in the coming games.
The local left-back has been offered his chance due to injury problems to rivals Davide Santon and Massadio Haidara.
The 22-year-old Tynesider shone brightly against Aston Villa at the weekend and is in line to stay in the team for Saturday's trip to Hull City.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "I want to show the manager I am good enough to keep my place. And if I do get a regular start it is up to the others to push me.
"Competition in any team brings out the best in players and it's something I love. You don't ever want to get complacent.
"No matter who it is, I always enjoy competition and being pushed by Davide and Massadio can only bring out the best in me and them. That's the way I see it."
