Duffen accepts responsibility for Hull financial worries

Paul Duffen has again accepted responsibility for Hull City's financial problems after resigning this week.

The former Tigers chairman says the buck stops with him and accepts the situation couldn't continue.

Duffen told TalkSport: "I think it's very simple really. I come from an industrial background where if things aren't going well the buck stops with the guy at the top and I've been executive chairman of the club for two-and-a-half years, it's been a fantastic journey but results in 2009 as a calendar year haven't been good at all and at the end of the day that's been on my watch and whatever the financial constraints the club's had to deal with, we have been active in the transfer market, we have been running the football club in a certain way which is the way that I have believed would be successful.

"Yes, Phil's the manager of the team on the pitch but at the end of the day, it's on my watch, I am the chief executive. I'm responsible to the shareholders for success on the pitch, ultimately, and I don't see why football club executive shouldn't be accountable."
