Drogba phone call to Gervinho helped Chelsea sign Hazard from Lille

A new book by former Lille boss Rudi Garcia has revealed that ex-Arsenal attacker Gervinho was the middle man in the Eden Hazard deal.

When the Ivory Coast international was playing under Garcia at Lille, now his manager at AS Roma, he fielded a phone call from national teammate Didier Drogba who was at Chelsea at the time.

Drogba had Blues owner Roman Abramovich with him and wanted to talk with Belgian young gun Eden Hazard who went on to make the move to Stamford Bridge in 2012.

"Pass the phone to him," Drogba is said to have demanded, referring to Hazard. "There's someone who wants to talk to him over here."

It is believed that Abramovich promised Hazard he would triple his wages if he left Lille for Chelsea.

And the rest, they say, is history!
