Draper backs Ramos for Tottenham success

Former Aston Villa midfielder Mark Draper is confident Juande Ramos will be a success at Tottenham.

Draper worked with Ramos when playing for Spain's Rayo Vallecano and told the Sunday Mirror: "From the moment I got there it was obvious what a well run club it was, and that was all down to Ramos.

"Vallecano was a tiny club in the same city as Real Madrid and Atletico. But I think Ramos had taken them into the UEFA Cup the previous season and we finished ninth in the Primera Liga when I was there. They've been relegated twice since he left, so it gives you an idea of the impact he had.

"For the size of the club he worked wonders, and the key thing for me was that he made sure you understood exactly what your job was.

"There's nothing better for any player than going on to the pitch knowing just what you are expected to do. Let's say I've played for some who help you feel like that and others who definitely didn't - and he was one of the best.

"I couldn't speak any Spanish but it was never a problem. He moved magnetic markers around a board and you would see exactly what he wanted. He always wanted his teams to play good football and I'm sure that will go down well with the Spurs fans."
