Dr Who signs up for Man Utd film on Busby Babes

David Tennant has signed up for a leading role in the BBC film about the Busby Babes.

It will focus on the "Busby Babes" - the youngest team to win the Football League - and the 1958 Munich air disaster which killed most of the side.

Tennant, 39, will play team coach Jimmy Murphy.

The cast also includes Jack O'Connell, who played Cook in E4 teen drama Skins, as Bobby Charlton.

Pirates of the Caribbean actor Sam Claflin will appear as Duncan Edwards.

The film draws on interviews with the survivors of the disaster and their families. It also focuses on how the club coped.

BBC North director Peter Salmon said: This was a tragedy that touched the lives of many people in Manchester both directly and indirectly. I am proud that BBC North is supporting this project."
