Downing says West Brom transfer plans on-hold until new manager found

West Bromwich Albion caretaker boss Keith Downing admits their January transfer plans are on-hold while they seek a new manager.

Downing will not be actively pursuing new targets or freeing up space in the squad by allowing players to move on.

"The chairman is aware of the speed in which it needs to be done and he's aware of the importance of the month," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"The club has not got it wrong in recent times so we have to trust them to get it right again.

"For me I have had no thought about the transfer window. For me it was about getting through a difficult and busy Christmas period.

"Once today's game is out the way, things get back to normal and then there will be attentions towards the transfer window.

"I wouldn't have thought anything would happen (in the meantime).

"It's important the new man comes in, takes a look at the players himself and then makes a judgment himself."
