Stewart Downing says Liverpool teammate Martin Kelly will benefit from his time with England at the Euros.

The defender was called up ahead of Manchester United veteran Rio Ferdinand as an emergency.

Downing told Absolute Radio: "It might work for him. I mean, he's a quiet lad anyway, Kells, he goes about his business in a quiet way, but a terrific player. I think in a couple of years time he could be a top full-back, and he's still learning the game but you can see his attributes and qualities when he's played for Liverpool, he's going to be a top players."
