Downing concerned over empty Middlesbrough seats

Stewart Downing admits Middlesbrough's tiny gates are a concern after victory over Birmingham on Saturday.

"It's hard for some people to be able to afford to come but if we're winning and playing attractive football we'll get them back, no problem," said Downing.

"The only thing we can do as a team is to entertain and perform regularly. We let ourselves down at Wigan but if we keep playing like that we'll keep getting the fans back.

"In the last couple of games we've looked a really good side. We're unbeaten in four games so hopefully the fans will take notice of that and they'll get behind us.

"Against Birmingham it could have been a 5-0 game but at least we're creating the chances and we should have won by a lot more.

"I think the whole of the midfield has got a goal now and that's two already for me. I only got two last season and I want more than that. I should be an eight-to-10-goals-aseason player but that depends on the positions I get in."
