Jimmy Downey is set to start tonight for North Queensland Fury against Wellington Phoenix.
The new signing from Perth Glory is expected to be named at fullback by Fury coach Ian Ferguson.
''We've talked a bit (about tactics) and we'll do a bit more tonight and tomorrow and I have been watching the games anyway because I've got a few mates here,'' Downey told the Townsville Bulletin.
''At the end of the day, it's still football and as long as I do all the things I need to do right then it shouldn't be a problem.''
Downey has been plagued by 'freak' injuries this season, limiting the former Young Socceroo to three appearances for Perth, but he said that was fully behind him.
Following that frustrating stint on the sidelines, he was itching to prove himself again.
''It was my third year there and I have got a lot of fond memories in Perth - they gave me my chance - and I had a couple of good years with them,'' he said.
''This year was a bit of a setback with a few injuries, but I think this is what I needed, I needed something to change, a chance to prove myself again.
''I've been a bit out of sight, out of mind with the injuries I've had this year so it will be nice to get back into playing, hopefully, and help North Queensland get to the finals.''
