Iain Dowie has opened talks with Hull City about taking the manager's job.
The Daily Mail says Dowie was locked in talks with Hull City last night and is expected to be named as Phil Brown's successor today.
Hull chairman Adam Pearson went for the former QPR and Crystal Palace boss after Mark Hughes turned him down and Avram Grant underlined his wish to stay with Portsmouth.
Paul Jewell and Alan Curbishley also snubbed Pearson, who sacked Brown on Monday morning following Hull's weekend home defeat by Arsenal.
The former Northern Ireland striker's last job was as Alan Shearer's assistant at Newcastle, but the pair were unable to save them from relegation to the Championship.
