Donovan happy he proved he could play in English Premier League

After his loan spell with Everton finished on the weekend, LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan was happy he proved to himself that he could mix it with the best.

The USA midfielder/forward enjoyed a successful 10-week stint with the Toffees, much better than his loan stint with German club Bayern Munich in 2009 and more enjoyable than his time with Bayer Leverkusen from 2001-2005.

Donovan played 13 matches for Everton, scoring two goals, and was vital in a lot of those games as the Toffees enjoyed a good run during his stay and he was glad he was able to perform for a club with such brilliant fans.

"I've proved to myself that I can play against any player in the world and that's a pretty cool thing to think," he told the club's official website.

"It wasn't easy in Germany, for a lot of different reasons.

"It would be easier to say that it was because they didn't do something, but I came here this time with a different mindset. Maybe if I had done that before then it may have turned out differently."

He added on evertonTV: "I'm 28 years old now and I've played over 100 times for my country, I've also played a lot of league games in different parts of the world.

"But I've never met a fan base like this, either playing for them or as an away player. Forget about football for a moment, this is a life experience I'll never forget."
