LA Galaxy ended a winless streak of seven matches with a 1-0 home result over Portland Timbers on the weekend.
It was a hard-fought victory by the 2011 MLS champions, who achieved the win courtesy of Todd Dunivant's 61st minute goal, and the performance was one that reminded Landon Donovan of last season's consistent title-winning efforts.
"I can't look at any one guy and say 'He didn't perform well and he didn't give it everything he had.' It's a good building block.
"Let's not get carried away, it's one win, but a good win and everyone feels good about it.""We got back to doing things that make a difference," Donovan said. "It wasn't pretty but we made a lot of real good plays on both sides of the ball that make a difference.
And the way in which the Galaxy went about producing a much-needed win was not lost on David Beckham, who supplied the goal for Dunivant from a corner.
"We need more performances like this and were capable of it, so hopefully this will be our springboard.""Last season we played a lot of games like this where we won 1-nil and we kept the other teams in shutouts," Beckham said.
