Donovan, Beckham delighted with LA Galaxy response in CCL draw

Landon Donovan feels it would have been ‘cruel’ if he and his LA Galaxy teammates tasted defeat on Wednesday night.

The reigning MLS champions fell two goals behind to Toronto FC at the Rogers Center in their CONCACAF champions League quarter-final first leg before bouncing back to record a 2-2 draw.

Donovan, who scored the late equaliser for the Galaxy, admits it would have been an unkind result if LA had have gone down on the night.

“We put ourselves in a bit of a tough situation, but our response to that was really good,” Donovan said. “It would have been a little bit cruel leaving there losing 2-1.”

And Donovan’s midfield mate David Beckham was also thrilled with character shown by the Galaxy players to be able to score a second away goal.

“That’s what we want to see from the players on our team,” Beckham said. “When we’ve gone down, we battled back.

“I wasn’t worried at any point, even when we were 2-nil down. I thought we were going to create chances and score goals.”
