DONE DEAL: Man Utd trigger Young contract extension

Manchester United have officially completed a deal to keep Ashley Young at the club for a further season.

Young had a clause in his contract, allowing the club to push it forward by another year. Now the clause has been formally activated, and Young will be a United player for at least another 12 months. There is no salary increase for the English winger/defender.

Despite being near the tail end of his career, Young has shown impressive form for United when called on by manager Jose Mourinho.

In fact, his displays are the reason why talented English left back Luke Shaw has struggled to cement a first team position at Manchester United this season.

While United will be hoping to sign a left back in the summer, especially if Shaw departs, Young will still play a vital role in the squad.
