Genoa are set to take Facundo Ferreyra off the hands of Newcastle United.

The Argentine striker joined Newcastle in the summer on-loan from Shakhtar Donetsk, but has not featured for the first team.

Sky Italia says Genoa have stepped in and struck terms with Shakhtar to takeover his loan from Newcastle in January.

Ferreyra will join the Serie A club as a replacement for Mauricio Pinilla.

The striker has given his approval to the move.
