DONE DEAL: Chelsea defender Matt Miazga delighted with Vitesse return

Vitesse Arnhem have re-signed Matt Miazga from Chelsea on a season-long loan.

Miazga spent last term at Vitesse, making 23 appearances as they won the Dutch Cup and finished fifth in Eredivisie.

But with competition for places in defence high, Chelsea have decided to send the 22-year-old back to Vitesse to gain more first-team experience.

Miazga represented the USA at Gold Cup this summer but is cutting short his holidays to join up with Vitesse.

He said: "I felt very welcome and we have all made historic success.

"That success will be expanded this coming season and I will continue to develop myself.

"That's why I returned as soon as possible after winning the Gold Cup. We are going to compete for the second prize in the club's history."

Vitesse's technical director Mo Allach added: "We would like Matt to have another year in our selection and in this way we also double the positions in the defence.

"The fact that he chose for us again and wanted to connect directly after the Gold Cup has his mentality. "

Miazga will join fellow Chelsea loanees Fankaty Dabo, Charlie Colkett and Mason Mount at Vitesse.
