Doncaster return on the cards for Watford's Neill

Lucas Neill could return for the final match of the 2013/14 Championship regular season this weekend.

The 36-year old Australian defender, who is on loan with Doncaster Rovers from Watford, has been out of action since April 9 with a hamstring strain.

The former Millwall, West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers star made the loan move to the Keepmoat Stadium in a bid to keep his World Cup chances alive but has been restricted to just three appearances for the South Yorkshire outfit.

However, Neill could be one of five changes to Paul Dickov's line-up for Saturday's trip to title-winners Leicester City which could define whether or not Rovers will stay in England's second tier next season.

A Doncaster spokesman said: "We all know how desperate Lucas is to make the squad for Brazil and represent his country again, and prior to the injury he was doing really well for us.

"We won at Leeds on his debut and his leadership qualities and experience shone through and were rubbing off on the rest of the team. He has been a loss for us since the injury against Bolton.

"The boss may look at making a couple of changes for the game at Leicester after a couple of defeats (three in the club's last four) and that may see him recalled. But it's too early to say at this stage."

Doncaster currently sit above the Championship drop zone, one point clear of third-bottom Birmingham City, who travel to 14th-placed Bolton in the final fixture of the campaign.
