Sean O'Driscoll insists he was never tempted to leave Doncaster Rovers for Burnley.

The Rovers boss was expected to replace Owen Coyle at Turf Moor, but when the two clubs failed to agree a compensation fee the Lancashire club offered the job to former Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws.

O'Driscoll said: "The issue of compensation was always the stumbling block for anything. That had to be solved before we took anything further. That had to be sorted before I could accept anything that Burnley would offer.

"That was never sorted, so my options were limited and one of the things I could have done I wasn't prepared to do. I couldn't do it and I told both parties that.

"You try and tell the players to do the right things and I don't think walking out on anything is the right thing to do. I don't think I could ever be labelled a hypocrite. I stick to my principles and try and work as hard as I can to make those things successful."

O'Driscoll added: "One of my options was to walk, but I made it very clear from day one that that was one of the things I wasn't prepared to do."
