Donadoni happy with Italy approach in Georgia win

Goals either side of half-time from Andrea Pirlo and Fabio Grosso moved Italy into second-place behind leaders Scotland in their Euro2008 qualifying group.

"It was important for us to win tonight," said Donadoni. "The players put in an excellent performance, one full of character.

"I saw my men face this match with the right attitude. That is what really pleased me about this encounter.

"We certainly played better in the opening period.

"We had more intensity then, whereas in the second half we just controlled things to make sure we took home the victory."

On Italy's second-place, Donadoni added: "I didn't watch Scotland [today] because it was of no interest to me at that stage.

"Now we have a month to prepare for the game against them. We know that our play and creativity need to improve.

"However, we were not at 100 per cent so I am therefore satisfied with what was done tonight. I want to thank the team for that."
