Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is being blasted in his homeland over fielding William Gallas against Barcelona this week.
Gallas aggravated a calf injury in the 2-2 draw with Barca and is likely to be out for the season.
French coach Raymond Domenech accused Wenger of "outrageous and irresponsible" behaviour by playing centre-back Gallas.
Wenger said: "It was a mistake to play him but I don't think it will cost him his World Cup.
"He declared himself fit and I have reports from the rehab centre where he worked for 10 days and he had four days with the team.
"Maybe we should've taken some more time but he was jumping, running up and down the stairs in France and had very hard sessions.
"We have to first take care of the interests of Arsenal. The French team is important but he is paid by the club not the national team."
