Former Manchester United boss Tommy Docherty has backed Roberto Martinez to be a success at Wigan Athletic.

Martinez will be confirmed as Latics manager on Wednesday and Docherty told the Manchester Evening News: "I saw Swansea in two games against Fulham and they were absolutely outstanding, they played a great brand of football.

"They passed it around and I'd go so far to say, with the exception of Barcelona, they were the most attractive team I saw.

"It was great to watch, it's what the fans want to see. Martinez has done a great job at Swansea."
