Arsenal defender Johan Djourou admits he turned down a move to Newcastle to join Birmingham City on-loan this season.

The 20-year-old Swiss international defender is the latest of Arsene Wenger's youngsters to agree a loan deal with Blues.

He said: "There were a lot of clubs interested, but I was keen to work with Steve Bruce.

"He was a centre-back and he's been passing on a lot of tips. He's a fantastic coach and I'm sure he'll help me a lot."
