Genclerbirligi striker Bruce Djite is intent on winning himself a spot in the Socceroos squad leading into next year's World Cup. The former Adelaide United man made the move to Turkey last year and is enjoying a good start to his career in Europe but wants to ensure his form gets better so he can convince national coach Pim Verbeek to include him.
"For me, next year's World Cup is the biggest motivating factor," Djite said.
"I came here to Turkey by myself, to a new country, working hard, trying to push my way into Pim's plans.
"Every time I get called up for the national team is such an honour. I am in awe of the players there and, even though I have been to so many camps since Pim has taken over, I still wait for that call every time pretty anxious.
"I missed out on the Olympics and we missed out with the U20s, so I have never been to a massive tournament. I can think back when I was a kid, to watching all the World Cups gone past just dreaming how good it would be to go there."
