Djite called up to Socceroos squad

Pim Verbeek has called on Genclerbirligi striker Bruce Djite for next week's World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan. Reports suggest that two unnamed players are under fitness clouds so Verbeek decided to bring the 22-year old to Australia as a back-up plan.

Djite was delighted to help his nation in a time of need.

"This has come as a surprise and I have to say I'm pretty excited," Djite said.

"Any time you get a call from your country it's a huge buzz and I'll just get my head down, train hard and see where it takes me.

"When you're in the company of the great players we have in the squad you can only benefit from the experience and if I make the final 18 then that would be a huge bonus.

"Right now, I'm not even thinking of that. I'm just looking forward to getting out and trying to show what I can do in training.

"We're so close to qualifying for the World Cup now, it could be a massive night at Stadium Australia next Wednesday."
