Distin urges Portsmouth to keep faith with Nugent

Sylvain Distin has urged Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp to stick with striker David Nugent.

Distin said: "When you are a striker you want to score goals as soon as you arrive at a club - and he didn't. So I suppose he was doubting himself a bit.

"If you don't score people start questioning whether you are worth the money. But I think that goal will bring back his confidence.

"Dave's a Premiership-class striker. No one wants him to go. He just needs some time.

"Remember, he played for England - that wasn't for nothing.

"But he's still young, this is the first time he has moved away from his family and it's difficult.

"I'm sure he will be back to his old self soon."
