Dismissed Rangers duo considered missing Cup celebrations

Kevin Thomson and Danny Wilson felt like missing Rangers' celebrations following their Co-operative Insurance Cup final win over St Mirren after letting their team-mates down. Thomson and Wilson were both sent off in the second half of a remarkable match at Hampden on Sunday and were watching the game on television in the dressing room as Kenny Miller headed in a dramatic late winner.

"At first I didn't know if we should go back out to celebrate," Thomson told the Daily Record. "I didn't know if the boys were going to come inside before going back out to lift the Cup so Danny and I just sat there watching them celebrate."

He added: "To tell you the truth I don't think Danny and I really deserved to be out there after leaving the team in a hole - down to nine men. So we kind of sat on the fence and stayed inside.

"But we were told to get out there and enjoy ourselves and I must admit it was a great feeling when we walked out and got a few cuddles off the rest of the lads.

"The manager gave me a big hug and the first thing he said to me was he thought it was soft sending off.

"But I still felt bad inside because it's hard enough trying to win cup finals with 11 players - never mind nine!

"I'm just thankful the rest of the boys managed to dig deep and come up with something special.

"That's what this Rangers team is all about - we are all in it together and it's a very special group."
